I have just heard that Nina Sales has been appointed Head Girl at Cobham. So many children who leave Harewood are going on to be leaders in their intermediate schools. We are so proud of all our former students! It is great to be growing leaders!

Marae
The teachers at Harewood are going to visit and stay at Rehua marae. Ask your teacher about the things they enjoyed and learnt.
Cyber safety
Teachers have been learning more about cyber safety. The Internet can be a great place for creating, communicating, playing games and researching but it's important that we develop skills to stay safe and continue to use our values in this environment.

Miss Southen

Enjoy your time in Room 6 and at our wonderful school Miss Southen!

Thursday was Miss Smith's last day at school before leaving to be a full time mum. We said goodbye to her and gave her a book to read to baby. It was nice to all gather together on the decking to farewell her. We are looking forward to her bringing her new baby back to visit us. Miss Southen will be the new teacher in Room 6 for the rest of the year.

The Year 6's had a wonderful 3 day camp at Wainui last week. The weather was fantastic and we had lots of fun enjoying a range of activities that challenged us. We were all very tired at the end of each day! A big thank you to the parents who came with us and to the children who behaved so well and made the camp great for everyone.

Class Blogs
I am really enjoying reading class blog posts and seeing photos of what classes are doing. It is so much better when there are people reading the blog posts. Try showing your families how to long on to your class blog and ask them to write a comment. If you have family out of Christchurch they will enjoy finding out more about what's happening at Harewood School.

Te Reo
I am going to a course each week for 5 weeks to help me with learning te reo. John, the tutor, has given some good tips - like making sure a t is said softly, keeping your tongue at the back not from of your mouth - more like a d and emphasising macrons on words. I am finding it challenging!
I hope you will all help me with my learning by using te reo with me when you can.

Mihi Whakatau
The Harewood Playcentre were welcomed onto our school site with a mihi whakatau on Friday. Our school proudly sang our school song and made our visitors feel very welcome. Some of them had never experienced a welcome like that and loved it!
Thank you Harewood School!
